WTTC, UNWTO urges UK government to lift air ban on Shark El-Sheikh

Cairo – Mubasher: The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) and the World Tourism Organization (WTO) called on the UK government to lift the current ban on UK-based airlines flying to Sharm El-Sheikh, according to a press release published two days ago.

Egyptian authorities have taken significant steps to raise t security level in airports as well as the surrounding areas, said the council, adding that this steps prompted other countries, including Germany and Russia to allow their airlines to start flying to Egypt again.

"Travel & Tourism is vital to Egypt's economy and social peace, contributing 11% f the country's GDP and 2.6 million in jobs in 2015. The reduction of visitors has created huge employment losses. The country's biggest concern is how the lack of employment opportunities, especially for young men and women, has instilled a desperate disposition and thus vulnerability to radicalization or to fleeing on a refugee boat", said David Scowsill WTTC president and Taleb Rifai, UNTWO secretary general in a letter to UK Prime Minister Theresa May.
