Abu Dhabi - Mubasher: Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat) has selected Falcon 9 of SpaceX, an American company specialised in manufacturing and deploying space technology, to launch Thuraya 4-NGS.

Thuraya 4-NGS is Yahsat's advanced satellite, which uses the latest satellite communications technologies to expand the coverage of the group's subsidiary Thuraya across Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa, according to a press release on Thursday.

Yahsat plans to launch Thuraya 4-NGS in the second half (H2) of 2023, with operations set to start in 2024.

The Group CEO at Yahsat, Ali Al Hashemi, said: "At Yahsat, we will continue forging partnerships with the world’s most innovative companies to enhance our competitiveness, deliver on our ambitious growth and expansion plans, and continue to create value for our customers, shareholders and the UAE."

SpaceX Vice President of Commercial Sales, Tom Ochinero, commented: "For the launch of its advanced technology, Yahsat sought a reliable and high-performance ride to orbit. We’re proud it has selected Falcon 9, one of the world’s most frequently flown launch vehicles."

It is noteworthy to mention that Yahsat has selected GMV, a Spanish technological business group, to provide the spacecraft control and flight dynamics systems to its Thuraya 4-NGS.
